Skyscrapers: From the 86th Floor

From my last visit to NYC, from the observation deck at 86th floor of the Empire State Building

Big buildings, that’s everyone’s dream to live in. But do you know that countries are facing a tough competition that who will build the tallest building in the world? Once most of the tallest buildings have been built in New York city (NYC). But the first tallest one was the Philadelphia city hall, built in 1901 in Philadelphia and it was 548 feet tall. At the top of the Philadelphia city hall, there is a statue of William Penn who is known for the freedom of religion. The next tallest building is the Singer building in NYC, it was also called as the early skyscraper! it was a very narrow building, the narrow part was the top, and the bottom is a rectangular prism. It was built in 1908. The third building is the MetLife tower. It is also a shorter name of Metropolitan life tower built in NYC. It was a pyramid shaped on the top of the building, beneath the pyramid, there is a gigantic clock, which was written in ROMAN numbers. It also made a record because construction workers built the Metropolitan Life tower in 1 year! The next one is the Woolworth building, again built in 1913 in NYC.

The next building is the Bank of Manhattan trust building. The building is a stack of smaller variations of buildings to make it a more interesting building. There is also a pyramid structure on top. It was built on 1930 in NYC. The next one is the Chrysler building in NYC. It is also the first skyscraper with an observation deck! It is a place from where you can see the entire city. It was built in 1930. The next one is the Empire state building. Something really cool about this building is that it is even taller than the Eiffel Tower!  At the 86th and 102nd floor they built two observation decks for the visitors. It was built in 1931. The Empire State Building was holding the record for 40 years being the tallest building in the world!  The next one is the World trade center built in 1971 which was the last tallest building built in New York city (NYC)! The bad news is that it was destroyed by some evil men in 2001. Then the construction builders built another world trade center called One world trade center next to the old one in 2006. They also built a Memorial for the old World Trade Centre that has been broken down.

The next one is the Sears Tower, also called the Willis Tower. This one was built in Chicago in 1973. Then the next one is the Petronas towers which were built in 1998 in the city of Kuala lumpur, Malaysia.  These are two towers exactly the same structures and between them there is a bridge so we can walk from one tower to the other one.  The next one is Taipei 101, built in 2004. The next one is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It is actually the biggest skyscraper right now in the world which is really cool! It is a set of cylinders going up and up and up. It was built in 2010. The breaking news is that now another skyscraper is under construction in Saudi Arabia which will break the record of Burj Khalifa soon. It is called the Jeddah Tower, also called as the Kingdom Tower, and it will be the first skyscraper which will stand 1 kilometer high up.

Do you know that there are also some unique shaped buildings in the world? I'm going to show you six such buildings that are actually real. The first one is the shoe shaped Church. It was built in Taiwan and it is like Cinderella's high-heeled shoes. The next one is the Stone House. It was built in Portugal. There are four stones to hold the house. There is also no light at all inside the building. People only use candles. The next one is the  Upside-down House. It was made in Poland. The next one is the Airplane house in Nigeria which looks like the airplane has landed on top of the house. Then the next one is the Ship house in Croatia. It has a ladder to go to the second floor and it looks like a haunted and abandoned ship. The next one is the community Bookshelf Library. it was made in Kansas City. the building is not just a library, 22 books are stacked beside each other to construct this building.

This summer when we went to visit New York city, we had lots of fun and excitements. Our friend Mahinder uncle and Shalika aunty drove us through the skyscrapers of Manhattan. We saw One World trade center, Chrysler Building, The Woolworth Building and the famous tourist attraction, Empire State Building. We went to Observation deck which is on the 86th Floor and the view of NYC from there was just awesome. Also, it was raining and windy like I felt it can blow me away! There are also several movies made in this building with frictional characters like, Spiderman, Wonder Woman, King Kong and many more. On the 80th floor they made a 3D animation on the windows as if the King Kong was climbing the building with some airplanes firing missiles at him. It was a great fun!

Diwali - the festival of lights

 Written by Arohan Banik Diwali is an Indian festival. It is all about festival of lights. It needs lots of preparation. In Diwali, we do rangoli, we make a lot of foods, we light up dias (lamps), we decorate our house with LED lights, we make dias with paper and we blast fire crackers. During Diwali, in Kolkata, people celebrate Kali Pujo. People go to pandal to meet God Ma Kali. People also go to many pandals to pray other Gods. They eat food from restaurants. Children play and have fun. There are lots of LED lights around the streets. I miss Kolkata so much during Diwali. In this festival, we wear Kurta Pajama. The Kurta Pajama is a type of traditional dress we wear in every Indian festival. The traditional dresses make you more spectacular for puja celebration. These also make people understand that we are Indians. This time, Pranay and Shweta joined us for the celebration. They gifted me a yellow car, and I got surprised. My Lego World

Written by Arohan Banik I like my Legos so much and it can make me more creative. I already became creative and I can build many things using Lego blocks. I don't even have to look picture to picture. I just use my imagination and lots of things come into my mind. I used to build a lot of things in my home. I can build a boat, car, ship, bakery shop and much more! These are few of my favourite things to build in the world. One thing that I love to build is a warplane. They have missile's and they are cool. I can build any warplane!! I have a warplane that has double turbine. It's large and special. One day I watched a movie about Legos – The LEGO Movie 2.
